Interprofessional Collaborations at the Core of the Teaching Profession in Prison

Abstract : Correctional institutions constitute societies in their own right (Lemire & Vacheret, 2007), structured by the coexistence of multiple institutional missions. They bring together professionals from the fields of justice, healthcare, social work, and education, whose objectives are not necessarily aligned. Their interactions are shaped by distinct professional logics, which may generate tensions and negotiations. This article focuses specifically on teaching in correctional settings and on the ways teachers collaborate with other institutional actors. By examining the long-negotiated position of teachers within the judicial institution (Milly, 2004), it explores the nature of multidisciplinary collaborations in prison and the professional interactions that shape educational practices.
Keywords : teaching profession, carceral setting, professional practices, collaboration, interprofessional collaboration.
