Abstract : The interrogation of a handicapped child is always a challenge. In fact, the whole school community is challenged and led to self-analysis. Are we ready to accept such disturbing differences ? Do we have the means of giving this particular child the same opportunities to success as others ? The following case shows that, regardless of the handicap, it is possible to experience a great human adventure, even if it ruffles deep-rooted habits. Hatim’s stay in our school may have been surprising, but it has helped our educational objective. Once again, it broaches the question of a pupil-centred pedagogy, and the adaptation of the staff to the particular needs of each individual. It reinforces the idea that everyone is responsible for what the other becomes. Working on the integration of an handicapped child boils down to admitting that convictions may be ruffled for the sake of an objective that paves the way for a possible future.
Key-words : adapattion, integration, differentiated pedagogy, trisomy.
