Reading and talking about an extract of a realistic novel in a SVT class
Building knowledges on the validity on hightlights in science

Abstract : We propose in this article to analyse a didactic device based on the problematized reading of a story, in this case an excerpt from a realistic fiction novel, in science class. By relying at the theoretical level on the idea of scientific problematization and linking it to the reading of reluctant texts, we ask ourselves how this problematized reading can help the construction of knowledge about the validity of scientific highlights. To answer it we analyse the written productions of the 83 participating students and the oral interactions during the group discussions of these students. The results show how students discuss about the text interpretation from and epistemic and literary point of view. However, the discussion about the validity of scientific highlights superficial due to the absence of a particular didactic instruction about this aspect.
Keywords : realistic-fiction storybook, scientific problematization, reading.
