Résumé : L’éducation et le vieillissement constituent dans les représentations deux domaines spécifiques, qui ne peuvent se recouper en raison de leur positionnement à chaque extrémité de la flèche du temps. Nous proposons de rendre compte d’une recherche menée auprès d’« étudiants retraités » inscrits à l’Université de Provence, et dont l’objectif consiste à penser conjointement l’éducation et le vieillissement. Notre propos s’organisera en trois temps. Dans un premier temps, nous présenterons cette population étudiante particulière en interrogeant la signification qu’elle donne aux études et le rapport qu’elle entretient à celles-ci. Dans un second temps, nous reviendrons sur les expériences éducationnelles de ces étudiants en lien avec leur statut d’inscription. Enfin, nous montrerons que ces étudiants inves-tissent un type de formation que nous qualifierons de « formation complémentaire-continuée » qui permet de porter un regard neuf sur l’idée d’éducation permanente.

Abstract : Education and ageing constitute in the representations two specifics fields, which cannot be recut because of their positioning at each end of the arrow of time. We propose to give an account of a research undertaken near « retired students » registered to the University of Provence, and on which the objective consists in thinking collectively education and ageing. Our matter will be organized in three times. At first, we will present this particular student population by interrogating the meaning which she gives to studies and her report to this activity. In a second time, we will return on the educational experiences of these students due to the choice of their inscriptions’status. Finally, we will show that these students invest a type of training which we will qualify as formation « complémentaire-continuée » which makes it possible to carry a new glance on the continuing education idea.
